Windows Information Protection now from Azure AD

Finally are Microsoft moving the Intune configuration into Azure AD and in the new portal. This make it is easier to configure policies and connect them to Azure AD Groups. The issue was that Microsoft required users to use Internet Explorer to work with Intune, the admin console was built using Silverlight! A product that Microsoft have discontinued and not included in Edge browser.

With Intune administrators can configure policies for how Windows devices are configured when they are controlled by Intune. This feature is Windows Information Protection that can either be setup from setup from the admin console or from a Windows 10 Computer. The administrator can create a template using Local Security Policy and then export the configuration to a file that can be imported in Intune.

These rules that form a policy can be some of these and many more

  • Block OneDrive sync
  • Block user to unroll the device from Intune
  • Use of removable storage such as USB memory
  • Device name change
  • Password policies such as length and complexity
  • Locked screen experience such as picture, notifications

The use of private devices can with these features be made available and still keep the Information Security quite high. The feature is good for GDPR compliance.

Try out the new feature and the new console in Azure that does not require Silverlight!
